Call center agents, are the targets of the latest program of the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). According to the two government agencies, workers in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in the Philippines, are not getting enough SEX and they want to make sure this does not happen. But it’s not the SEX that we all know. SEX, this time, stands for stress-free, eat the right food and exercise.
Many of the workers suffer from unhealthy lifestyles because of their work schedules. They are also into unhealthy diets and sedentary lifestyles. Due to these, they need more SEX to combat ailments associated with lifestyles such as hypertension and diabetes.
Dubbed the i-Care project, the program involves conducting seminars at BPO companies to teach call center agents about the benefits and advantages of SEX. They will likewise be taught how they could relieve stress before office hours for three months. The healthy lifestyle caravan will also provide free medical services such as blood sugar and blood pressure checks to workers.
The project was hatched based on the results of a ‘bio impedance analysis’ last year involving about 1,500 call center agents. Sixty percent (60%) of these BPO workers were found to have higher metabolic age than their chronological age. This that they look older and feel older than their actual. These are results of a stressful environment and unhealthy lifestyle.
30 BPO companies in Metro Manila will benefit from the initial phase of the program covering around 200,000 call center agents. After this, the DOH moves to the other BPO firms around the country.
